I consider this Mary's first Halloween, last year, she was still just a baby and my mom gave her Puffs to much on.
This year, I actually made her costume and took her out to a few houses. Brian and I decided on a witch because we have a premonition that someone is just going to want to be princess for the next 5 years. We bought the hat and I made the cape out with shiny purple lining. the skirt had spider-web tulle with purple spiders on it and I had purple tulle underneath the skirt. I made all of this after she went to bed, so the first time I saw it all together was when I got home from work to take her trick or treating. I was pleased with how it looked AND that she wore it!
Going up to strange houses was a little stressful for her, she wasn't sure who these people were, why we were there. But she saw other kids out, so I think she got the hang of it. Something I realized while we were out: She has no idea what is inside those shiny wrappers. While this kid has had plenty of Oreos in her day, she's never had candy. She just liked putting things in her pumpkin to carry. Until we got home and she started chewing on a wrapper, so I opened a 3 Musketeers for her...and a monster was created. "More? More?" I can only imagine now at the grocery store she is going to ask for candy at the check out. Oh, well!
